Flip Your Lids!

for

Snow Woods Neighborhood Tables and Benches




Hello Neighbors!

The Snow Woods Neighborhood Association (SWNA) is collecting all plastic caps and lids to be turned into benches and possibly a few small picnic tables for the Snow Woods neighborhood. Please start saving all plastic tops. Each bench requires 200 pounds of caps and lids. Each picnic table requires 550 pounds.

           Flip top caps (like ketchup)                                      Butter container lids

           Spout caps (like mustard)                                       Ice cream bucket lids

           Hair spray caps                                                       Mayonnaise jar lids

           Spray paint caps                                                     Cool whip container lids

           Toothpaste caps                                                      Spice lids

Please, NO caps or lids with recycle # (1), (3), (6) or (7) recycle numbers.

ABSOLUTLEY NO MEDICAL CAPS

 

The above lists are just some of the types of lids you can save!

 

Turn your collection of caps and lids into the front desk at Dearborn’s Ford Community and Performing Arts Center located at 15801 Michigan Avenue. Before turning in your collections to the front desk, please make sure the caps and lids are CLEAN and FREE of cardboard inserts and metal in the cap or lid. We will be collecting up until June 1, 2025. If we do not have enough caps/lids by that date, then we will extend the collection time a few months longer.

Guest speaker: 

Dearborn's Chief of Police, Issa Shahin




Issa Shahin, appointed in January of 2022, is the Chief of Police for the Dearborn Police Department. During his 25-year career with Dearborn Police, Shahin served the department in many roles, including the commanding officer of the Investigative Division, a captain in the Investigative and Patrol Divisions, and a lieutenant in the Critical Incident and Community Support Unit. Between 2009 and 2013 Shahin was a sergeant in the Tactical Patrol Unit, and an ATF task force officer. Issa Shahin earned a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in political science and government, and a master's degree in homeland security and emergency management, from Eastern Michigan University (EMU). He is also a graduate of EMU's Police Staff & Command Executive Program. As leader of one of the largest police departments in Michigan, he strives to promote procedural justice, where officers and citizens alike are treated with dignity and respect, are given a voice, and can view their interactions with decision makers as neutral, transparent, and trustworthy.
